A.B. Daley Weekly Update- October 23, 2020

October 23,  2020

Dear A.B. Daley Families,

Just a few updates as we move into the weekend. We have a few busy weeks ahead of us and an exciting dress-up day on the horizon!

Just a friendly reminder that our morning schedule has changed this year and we are staggering the entry of students into our building. Our first wave of students enters the school at 8:35 am and the second group at 8:40 am. We ask that you please avoid dropping students off until 8:30 am when morning supervision begins. Students will be asked to wait outside until it is their turn to enter the building. Please send your child dressed appropriately to be outside in the morning with a warm coat, snow pants, mittens and toque.

On Friday, October 30, our school will be having a Halloween Dress Up Day. Due to Covid restrictions, we ask that you send your child to school in the morning dressed in their costume with no additional accessories. We will still have our in-school Halloween parade and classroom activities but will follow guidelines for social distancing and hand hygiene. We, unfortunately, are not able to have classroom parties with shared treats this year, but we will make sure everyone has fun and has a little break just the same!

A few important dates for you to note:

  • October 27-  Picture Retake Day
  • October 28- 6 pm Friends of A.B. Daley Fundraising Meeting & 7 pm School Council Meeting
  • October 30- Halloween Dress Up Day
  • November 2- Healthy Hunger Hot Lunch begins (if you want to order for the week of November 2nd, you need to place your order the last week of October)
  • November 10- A.B. Daley Virtual Remembrance Day Ceremony (more details to come)
  • November 11- Remembrance Day- No school for students
  • November 12 & 13- No school for staff or students

Friends of A.B. Daley Fundraising Society Update:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Friends of A.B. Daley Brisket Case fundraiser was extended to December 17, 2020, when the final draws for the incredible prizes below will take place. Tickets are going fast and can be purchased online at Brisket Case. You can also purchase tickets from Members of Friends of A.B. Daley directly, please contact Joscelyn Stangowitz for more information (joscelyn11@gmail.com).

Friends of A.B. Daley is responsible for fundraising for A.B. Daley Community School.  We raise funds to support programming, technology and other initiatives including but not limited to playground equipment, field trips, activities like inline skating, artists in residence, and the breakfast, snack and hot lunch programs at the school. Your support of our fundraising efforts creates new opportunities for the elementary students in our community.

Healthy Hunger Lunch Program:

Healthy Hunger Lunches are available again this year and our first delivery of lunches will be on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. This year our vendors will be Tim Hortons and Subway to begin. We are taking extra precautions to ensure that all meals are prepared by the restaurant and include single-serve condiments and utensils in the packages to minimize any spread of germs. Please order your child’s lunch by clicking Healthy Hunger on the A.B. Daley School Website, or go directly to https://healthyhunger.ca/. Thank you to our Friends of A.B. Daley Fundraising Society for organizing this service for our students.

School Council Update:

Our next meeting is Wednesday, October 28 at 7:00 pm.  Options for both, in-person and virtual attendance will be made available, please email s-abdaley@lrsd.ab.ca if you wish to attend virtually and a link will be shared. This year, we are looking to fill the positions of Chairperson and Co-Chair on this date. The chairperson works with the administration to identify upcoming topics for meetings, build the agenda, conduct meetings, and promote parental involvement within the school community. The co-chairperson would assist the chair in their duties and fill in when the chairperson is absent. If you are interested in either of these positions, please contact Jolene Becker at the school and plan to attend our October meeting.

There are door prizes from our amazing local community sponsors at each meeting! New families are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Community Support:

Thank you to Nanton Water for providing each student with hand sanitizer! We appreciate your support and generous donation!

Thank you also to Chinook Financial for presenting the Friends of A.B. Daley Fundraising Society with the Grass Roots Grant. We are very grateful and are looking forward to purchasing more tools for our sensory room to benefit all the students of A.B. Daley.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at the school, 403-646-3161 or s-abdaley@lrsd.ab.ca .  Have a wonderful weekend with your families!

Thank you,

Jolene Becker & Alli Martin
